	Reporter/producer intern Reported on tight deadlines and in multiple formats for this Manhattan hyperlocal news startup. Produced videos and photos to enhance written content, including on-camera news reporting.
	The Columbus Dispatch	Oct. 2006 - June 2009
	Education reporter, Columbus City Schools Covered Ohio’s largest school district and maintained a popular blog on district happenings. Frequently used FOIA requests and data analysis to produce in-depth stories on school performance. Beat required assertive reporting on administrative and financial concerns as well as classroom issues. Education reporter, suburban schools Covered news and trends in eight suburban school districts. Highlights included breaking a story that ousted a superintendent, pushing for the launch of our education blog and producing a video about a unique elementary school production.
	San Francisco Chronicle	Sept. 2005 – Oct. 2006
	Education reporter, East Bay schools Beat included schools in two counties, with a primary focus on the 50,000-student Oakland school district. Broke stories in a highly competitive market and covered contentious issues, including a labor contract dispute, a teachers’ strike vote and major educational reforms.
	Hearst Fellowship	Aug. 2003 – Aug. 2005
	San Antonio Express-News, education reporter Followed budgets and school board meetings in four urban districts. Quickly developed sources and an understanding of education jargon, producing news stories on sex education, textbook selection and other topics. Times Union (Albany, N.Y.), suburban reporter Covered a high-profile murder and used aggressive reporting to score the first interview with the suspect. Maintained a blog from the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. San Francisco Chronicle, general assignment reporter Filed stories from the scene of the Southern California wildfires. Covered major news stories, including the gubernatorial recall and the city’s first gay marriages.
